The only downfall to the holiday season is the effect it has on the environment with adding tons of wrapping paper to landfills, the energy use to showcase the beautiful lights, among other things. Luckily, there are a few strategies and tips to help you have an Earth friendly holiday season this year.

When deciding on your holiday lights this year, look for energy saving holiday lights at your local store. LED holiday lights will use 90% less energy than the traditional lights. This can help save you up to $50 on your energy bill to help your wallet as well.

A creative way to wrap those presents is to buy a roll of recycable brown paper and let the children color and decorate it. Use holiday-themed stamps, colorful paint, markers, crayons, or whatever you have on hand. Old maps and newspaper comic strips are also different and will help your presents stand out.

Instead of throwing out your old holiday cards, save them for next year. You can reuse those festive holiday cards by cutting out the decorative fronts. Next year you'll be able to paste these fronts onto wrapping paper as a border, or make collage holiday cards with the family.
