With their commitment to recycling, Ken Kobrick and Angela Greene wanted to enter the "green" accessory market so Passchal's founders took on the challenge of using discarded tractor tire inner tubes and converting them into high-end, luxury accessories. Approximately 56 tons of inner tubes have been recycled. It all started after Angela bought a backpack made from inner tubes.
"We started making the bags in our 900-sq.-ft house, and had to throw away our old couch to make room for the industrial sewing machines," explains Kobrick. "The only room that didn't have inner tubes or a sewing machine was the bathroom."
To keep their bags lightweight, Passchal adds leather trim and sides to their rubber bags. This also allows the designs to features new colors and textures. All leathers used are by-products and then are vegetable dyed.
