    Best Non-Organic Dog Food, August 25, 2011

Adopting an abused 2 year old Shih Tzu has been an interesting experience for our family over the past few months. We started Aggie out on Trader Joe’s kibble, believing this to be an acceptable, more natural product for both our dogs. Aggie could never digest the TJ’s product, so I began researching what doggie naturalists were feeding their dogs. And, it looked like the raw meat diet was the way to go and definitely no grains. This went great for about a month untill we got a bad batch of premade raw dog food (super expensive @ $60/week) and had terrible projectile poo and throwup for 3 days each! So, I said, forget this.. not worth it. Next, my research brought me to Acana/Orijen Brand(s). I still feel this is probably the highest quality kibble out there, but after 4 weeks of runny poo on this brand, I realized my little shih tzu just couldn’t handle such rich food. My other dog, a chow chow did fine on it but didn’t really care for the flavor all that much. The quest for answers continued until I came accross information on Dick Van Patten’s web site for his dog food line: Natural Balance. I didn’t realize that some dogs can be allergic to meat. For example, chicken is in nearly all dog food, and after a couple of generations (just like soy and wheat with humans), dogs are becoming sensative to chicken as an ingredient. The VERY FIRST DAY I put Aggie on their Duck and Potato Formula (grain free too – I love that!), her poos hardened up and no more bile throw up in the morning. She’s been on it now for 10 days, and it has been a wonderful experience – changing all our lives. Though I have to say she doesn’t run to the food, but she eats it when she is hungry. Now, our other dog, our Chow Chow begs for it. I’ve begun mixing the Orijen kibble with the NB canned, and she eats her entire meal right up. I will be transitioning my chow to NB as soon as her remaining Orijen is consumed. Love, Love, Love this product.

THE “HOLY GRAIL” OF DOG FOOD!!, January 27, 2012

I hate, hate, hate the way most canned dog food looks. I especially feel bad feeding it to my older rescue dogs. I also hate reading the ingredients and knowing what I’m putting into my dear older dogs.

But my current 9-year old rescue dog wouldnt eat anything except the grossest-looking canned food (no brand names will be mentioned — you know what brand I mean, though). It gave her stomach troubles, from both ends — so, after 18 months of bearing with her bad breath and bad gas, I started looking on Amazon for an alternative.

I had tried just about every canned dog food product and then came across this Duck and Potato. It sounded intriguing and the ingredients looked very promising. So I bought it, somewhat dubious that she’d be willing to eat it, but desperate to find a better food that she’d eat.

But she loves it! I’m so happy. It looks so good. I dont have to feel bad about feeding her stuff that I dont even want to touch any more. And her stomach problems have ceased totally.

I’ve found my HOLY GRAIL of dog food. This is what I’m going to feed all my dogs from now on. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!!!

My senior (14+ yrs.) MinPin has severe digestive issues. Natural Balance L.I.D. food has been the only thing she can tolerate so it has literally been a life-saver for her. She is a very picky eater but she loves the duck & potato formula and eats this food better than any others we have tried. I truly believe we would have lost her long ago without this food.

The Truth About Vitamin C In Raw Cacao, October 2, 2009
    By
    J. Z. Adelman
    (REAL NAME)

This review is from: Navitas Naturals, Raw Chocolate Powder, Organic, 16-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 2) (Grocery)

    Hello Raw Cacao Lovers!

Here is the real truth about vitamin C (ascorbic acid) content in Raw Cacao:

Despite the trafficked reports circulating the internet, the honest truth remains: even when processed at low temperatures (i.e. “raw”), there is no vitamin C (ascorbic acid) present in cacao.

Recently, highly trafficked websites such as[...] have highlighted the misinformation of cacao’s supposed vitamin C content. Included in these reports are claims that raw cacao is “extraordinarily high in vitamin C.”

Back in 2004, our Navitas Naturals lab tests directly looked for vitamin C content in raw cacao, but came up negative. Despite these results, the current media blitz brought us back again for another round of lab testing of our best-selling raw cacao products (beans, nibs and powder) for vitamin C. This time, we used two different laboratories instead of one, and utilized three different analytical methods: High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Capilary Electrophoresis (CE) with UV detection, and Titration.

Though all three methods have their place in the scientific community, Titration is the most commonly used method in the food industry when determining vitamin C (ascorbic acid) content. However, there is a critical detail within the Titration method many companies miss when testing raw cacao. The method of Titration is unable to differentiate the vitamin C (ascorbic acid) from the vitamin’s analogs. The result is what is known as a “false positive.”

This is why, at Navitas Naturals, we use HPLC when testing raw cacao’s vitamin C content. The HPLC method looks directly for vitamin C (ascorbic acid), and not just the analogs. Additionally, after sending samples of our products to another lab to test using the CE method, the reports returned consistent the HPLC results.

We have now also tested one of the largest raw cacao brands in the United States using the Titration and HPLC methods. And yet again the results confirm our previous conclusion that raw cacao has no vitamin C (ascorbic acid) present.

Cacao is a tremendously beneficial superfood, containing a wide spectrum of minerals and phytonutrients. It is important to be clear however, Vitamin C is not amongst these nutrients.

    Sincerely,

    Zach Adelman, President
    Navitas Naturals

I love this chocolate powder. My family and I recently became aware that MSG and its hidden forms (autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed protein, yeast extract, calcium caseinate, natural flavors, etc.) are the source of our health problems. This discovery led to searching for less processed (especially by high heat) food products. This is a great find! Do beware, if you try this stuff you will not be able to go back to Hershey’s….it is that good. Hot chocolate, chocolate ice cream, chocolate nut butters are all fabulous made with chocolate powder rather than highly processed cocoa powder.

Okay, so I’m a vegan, and I’m a baker and now that its cold, I become obsessed with this stuff. It has 5g of protein in a serving, is unprocessed so you actually get the cacao benefit instead of Hershey crap, and honestly, its the best cocoa I’ve ever used. Seriously. The quality is unsurpassed and I cannot even begin to tell you how much you’ll use it once you try it. I make my hot chocolate with it! Once you go natural cacao, you just don’t go back.
