Top Airline Companies Go Earth Friendly

The need to help save Mother Earth has reached the ears of many airline companies. News of the successful completion of the world’s first intercontinental flight that is run by the sun has reached the attention of the world. This gives more hope to environmentalist that even airports and airline companies can indeed do their part in helping saving the earth. Etihad Airways

It allowed the operation of its very first bio-fuel powered aircraft using the Boeing 777-300ER, which flew 14 hours fromSeattletoAbu Dhabipowered by recycled vegetable cooking oil mixed with traditional jet fuel.


This German airline, which flies to several French Airports, also joined with the eco-friendly cause. It successfully completed a six-month trial period for the very first world bio-fuel powered route, which was comprised of 1,200 flights that flew fromHamburg andFrankfurt. This gave freedom from carbon dioxide emission to as much as 1,471 tonnes.

Below is a summary of the achievements posted by the top five eco-friendly airlines in the world today:

1. Continental Airlines

It managed to improve its aircraft efficiency by 80% in span of only three decades. It is still pursuing its goal of finding fuel solution that will completely make their services 100% eco-friendly

2. British Airways

It has declared that it will be producing sixteen million gallons of eco-friendly bio-fuel coming from waste products by the year 2014. This is made possible through the deal made with Solena Group.

3. Southwest Airlines

The company took the initiative to make a $175 million investment to Required Navigational Performance in hope of producing fuel-efficient planes that will reduce the needed fuel through optimized flight paths.

4. VirginAtlantic

The owner of the company, Richard Branson, has made a commitment to recycle on board waste. Moreover, he also made a £2 billion pledge in support of fighting global warming.


It is hailed as the very first airline company to have a commercial passenger that runs by natural gas derived fuel.

While airline companies are making their effort to help fight the ill effects of global warming, French airports have also shown their support. Several airport shuttles have shifted to the use of propane and CNG as alternative fuel option. It may be long way before humanity completely frees itself from unwanted wastes that are harmful to the earth, but with the measures and heightened support and awareness of everyone, it is close to becoming a reality.
