Body Weight (in pounds) / 2 = amount of water (in ounces) to drink daily

The average woman (over 20 years old) in the United States weighs 164.7 pounds. By the math she would be recommended to drink 82.35 ounces of water daily. That would be about roughly 10 glasses of water assuming the glass is equal to 1 cup (8 ounces).

The average man (over 20 years old) in the United States weighs 194.7 pounds. The calculation would suggest he drink 97.35 ounces of water every day. Again, if a glass is equal to 8 ounces, or 1 cup, he would drink about 12 glasses of water daily.

It’s best to spread your water intake throughout the day for the best results. It’s easier to drink cold water than room temperature water. And you can always add a squeeze of lemon for flavor.

You’ll want to drink water before, during and after you work out to have a successful workout.

  • Keep a water bottle with you all day long
  • Drink before you get thirsty
  • Before you start exercising drink 1 to 2 cups of water
  • While exercising you’ll want to drink ½ to 1 cup of water every 15 minutes

Sports drinks are preferable to water in this case because water will inhibit your thirst mechanism before you are fully rehydrated.
