Earth Hour 2011 is Tonight at 8:30 pm

It's that time again. Earth Hour 2011 is finally here and it's the biggest Earth Hour ever! Over 131 countries and territories have already registered to switch off power tonight at 8:30 pm. Countries that have officially joined for the first time include: Jamaica, Uganda, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Palestine, Uzbekistan, Trinidad & Tobago, Lebanon, Iran, Swaziland, Chad, Gibraltar, Suriname and Lesotho.

 


 

 

Earth Hour 2011 will be taking place tonight, March 26 at 8:30 pm.

 

Started in Sydney, Australia in 2007, Earth Hour began with 2.2 million individuals and over 2,000 businesses turning off their lights for one hour to stand against climate change. More than 50 million people across 35 countries and territories joined the campaign only one year later. And this will be the biggest Earth Hour. So join in and turn your lights off starting at 8:30 pm tonight for one hour. Let us know what you did in the comments.

Earth Hour 2009

On March 28, at 8:30 pm local time, one billion people will go dark for Earth Hour. World Wildlife Fund is asking individuals, businesses, governments and organizations around the world to turn off their lights to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions.

 

 

 

 

Already hundreds of icons and landmarks around the world have signed up to turn their lights off for Earth Hour 2009 including – the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Sydney Opera House, Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens and The London Eye, among many others.
