I was just visiting WholeFoodsMarket.com and noticed they are launching a new website look on September 5, 2008. You can take a tour by clicking here.
I know some people like to lovingly refer to Whole Foods as Whole Paycheck, and depending on what I'm buying I can see what they mean. Generally I stick to the Whole Foods 365 Brands and the prices are obviously lower than more Specialty brands. But I'm able to feed my husband and I, and our pets, on $50 a week. Now that probably sounds like a lot to some of you, and cheap for others. It definitely doesn't include as much Organic as I would like, but with the rise of grocery prices these days I'll just have to make do.
I live in Orange County, California, so I'm not able to go directly to farms or growers to get better deals. The closest I can get is the Farmers' Markets around here, my favorite is the one in Old Town Tustin. For the locals, it's on Wednesdays from 9 am to 1 pm (rain or shine). Here's a map. I've been to the ones in Irvine (near the Irvine/Tustin Market Place), the Orange (Mall of Orange / Village of Orange), and recently to the one in Placentia. By far the Tustin is my favorite. It's on a relatively small lot, but there are plenty of booths and they have the best tasting fruit (at only $1.50 per pound last I checked).
But back to Whole Foods Market's new website. I don't know about you, but I've always loved their simplistic nature to the existing website and at first was saddened to hear of the change.
Of course I took the new tour and saw what they were planning to do. Here's what I think: The new website is nice on the eyes as well, but I still prefer the old look and layout. What I am looking forward to is the new recipe search, community forums, and "hopefully" (my fingers are crossed here) a better "On Sale / Specials" section.
I'm sure I'll get used to it, but as of right now it just looks cluttered. Take the tour yourself and get a sneak peak, click here.
